From my very first contact with St. Bernard Academy as a candidate for the Head of School position, I could tell I liked it. Not only was I received with great personal enthusiasm, but I felt a certain sense of connectedness. There was a wonderful feeling of community that began with the students, carried through the faculty and staff and continued through to the parents. Every person I have had the opportunity to meet exudes that same spirit.
SBA, like most area schools, boasts of a wonderful academic reputation, one that is on display everyday. More than that, however, we are proud of our students. Beginning with that first day of enrollment at St. Bernard Academy we concentrate on educating and training the whole child. Through our athletic programs, our fine arts and our enrichment activities, our goal is to provide practical, life enriching experiences to help the children prepare for a future that will be ever challenging. We view our role as one of support to the parents. It is in this regard that we commit to a positive working relationship between the school and parents.
Our academic program consists of two tiers in three subject areas: reading, language arts and math. The first tier has been designed for children who are working at or near their grade level. We have found that these students, when challenged at this level, perform above their own expectations, many times at a level beyond that of their contemporaries. The second tier is designed for students whose daily work exceeds their grade level in the designated subject areas. These students work at an accelerated level in terms of pace and subject matter.
